Mission:
The Colorado Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers is a professional association that advocates for the promotion, development and protection of its members, the profession of social work and social work values.
About Us:
Founded in 1955 the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world, currently boasting a membership of approximately 108,000 in 56 state, territorial, and international chapters.
NASW’s primary functions include promoting the professional development of its members, establishing and maintaining professional standards of practice, advancing sound social policies, and providing services that protect its members and enhance their professional status.
NASW works nationally, and through chapters in every state of the country, to enhance the professional growth and development of its members, to create and maintain professional standards, and to advance sound social policies. NASW’s National Board and Staff establish a broad programmatic and policy vision for the entire Association, consistent with priorities of the Delegate Assembly. A recent key priority is the establishment of Seven Essential Services that all Chapters on which all Chapters are asked to focus.
The Delegate Assembly (DA) is the representative, decision-making body through which NASW members set broad organizational policy, establish program priorities, and develop a collective stance on public and professional issues. The DA meets once every three years and approves all changes to the Code of Ethics and policies published in Social Work Speaks.
Among NASW’s political action programs are Political Action for Candidate Election (PACE). The Association also sponsors professional conferences and continuing education programs, and produces journals – such as the flagship Social Work books – and major reference works for the profession.
NASW-CO is the state chapter of NASW, and currently maintains a membership base of 2,100+ professionally trained social workers and social work students. The Chapter has active committees that involve members throughout the state to better serve the social work community. These committees, along with each of our regions, work on professional, social policy, and legislative issues and sponsor networking and gatherings for members. Our PACE Committee also endorses statewide candidates for elected office.
