At the state level, the Chapter's Legislative Committee identifies bills of interest to the social work profession during each legislative session. Our contract lobbyist (paid with NASW-CO member dues) helps the committee follow these bills through the legislative process and advocate in the best interest of social workers throughout the state. NASW-CO may also propose legislation if a need is identified within the social work community.

NASW-CO would like to encourage all members to advocate for the profession of social work and our clients by being informed and involved in the legislative process. Social Workers’ experience in the field is an invaluable asset to the chapter and its legislative efforts. Please contact the Legislative Committee with any questions or concerns, or if you would like to get involved including by testifying (we'll help!). You might also consider joining the Chapter Legislative Committee Listserve by making a request to the Chapter Office.

NASW-CO is a longtime member of the Colorado Behavioral Health Partnership, which is a coalition of professional associations, service providers, and advocacy organizations that unite to identify and advance policy recommendations meant to strengthen and improve Colorado’s behavioral health system. The Partnership engages in advocacy efforts primarily within the CO Legislature, but also the Governor's Office, and occasionally Congress.
