Practice Standards Committee

NASWCO Chapter 0 1639

The Practice Standards Committee meets virtually via Zoom at this time due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Practice Standards Committee meets monthly and we welcome all members. The Committee has a consultative process that handles questions from members. Please contact committee chairs, Kathy Aguirre, LCSW and Balin Anderson, LCSW for more information.

The purpose of the Committee on Practice Standards is to examine areas of all social work practice and develop guidelines of ethical conduct. This committee does not function in lieu of the specially appointed NASW Committee on Inquiry, but rather in addition to such a committee. The Committee on Practice Standards focuses on areas in which standards of practice have not been developed, as well as areas where questions may have come forth regarding unclear interpretations of existing standards. The committee may issue advisory opinions regarding the practice of social work.

The Committee has a consultative process that handles questions from members. This process guides members in the ethical decision-making process, but does not provide supervision or give legal advice. The Committee will accept questions/issues that have an impact on social work practice. You are invited to attend a meeting in-person (when in-person meetings resume post-COVID-19 pandemic) or by Zoom/phone to bring the question/issue for discussion. Please contact the NASW Chapter Executive Director, Leanne Rupp at lrupp.naswco@socialworkers.org to request the issue be added to a meeting agenda.

Join Denver area's NASW-CO members and representatives for a virtual "Holiday Meet & Greet" on December 1st from 6:30-7:45pm.
Our event starts with a relaxing 10-minute meditation and stretch to help you unwind after a busy day. Then you'll be invited to chat with your NASW-CO leadership, Leanne Rupp, LCSW and Phoenix Rising, LSW. They want to learn about your day-to-day experiences as social workers. What are your challenges, rewards, goals, and growing pains? We wrap up with an authentic relating activity called The Curiosity Game. Each participant will get to ask one question to anyone in the group. We aim to foster authentic connection and relationship building for this holiday event!
