Lecturer of Social Work (multiple positions) - Metropolitan State University of Denver Department of Social Work

The Department of Social Work at Metropolitan State University of Denver is seeking applicants for one-year appointment contracts as full time lecturers beginning Fall 2024. The department is hiring up to four positions (three MSW primary assignment and one BSSW primary assignment). MSU Denver's Department of Social Work prides itself on a richly talented faculty comprised of teacher-scholars who are highly dedicated and empowered to support diverse students in growing as social work scholars, practitioners and leaders in the multitude of settings social workers perform.

MSU Denver's Department of Social Work prepares social workers to engage in skillful, ethical, justice-oriented, and effective practice in their communities. We accomplish this by:

  • Educating and training students to work with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities, including those who are members of historically excluded populations.
  • Building community centered and strategic partnerships with organizations,
  • Co-creating relationship-centered learning and working environments to foster growth and collaboration,
  • Utilizing the NASW Code of Ethics to inform teaching and practice, while adapting to changes in the field and world, and
  • Drawing from a vast knowledge base informed by multiple perspectives.

MSU Denver enrolls over 16,000 students, where nearly 60% are first generation and over 55% are students of color. Located in downtown Denver, we are a designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), an INSIGHT Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award winner for 10 consecutive years, and the only Seal of Excelencia certified institution in Colorado. MSU Denver is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented and historically minoritized groups.

 

Responsibilities

The successful candidates will serve in the areas of departmental need, candidate qualifications and expertise.

  • ​Teaching will consist of 30 semester credits per academic year. Teaching may include online, face to face, and hybrid instruction. The successful candidate will take on lead faculty responsibilities for specific courses and be responsible to update and modify online and on campus course material.
  • Advising responsibilities include a designated load of students and perform professional advising for students in the program.
  • Service work in the form of meetings to stay up to date on Departmental processes related to teaching and student needs is expected. The candidate is expected to maintain active involvement in professional organizations and/or the community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Individuals hired into these full-time lecturer positions will be eligible to apply for our internal Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Faculty Fellowship positions. These individuals will receive release time from teaching to serve our department’s mission to students and our community with a focus on HSI initiatives specifically. The HSI Fellowship applicants must be currently enrolled in a doctoral program or have already received a doctoral degree in social worker or a related field and have previous teaching, practice or research experience demonstrating a commitment to one or more communities whose primary language is Spanish. 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited institution
  • Two (2) years relevant post-MSW experience

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a doctoral program for social work or a related field
  • Previous teaching, practice or research experience demonstrating a commitment to one or more communities whose primary language is Spanish
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • All but dissertation completed toward a doctoral degree in social work or other related discipline
  • Doctoral degree in social work or other related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching about issues of privilege and oppression, social justice, racial justice, social inequalities, and/or diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to teach social work theory and practice courses
  • Experience developing and organizing college courses
  • Experience in leadership in online pedagogy

 

Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this position is $53,000 - $59,000 at Lecturer level. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.
